Executing successful marketing and publicity

There are many different types of communication. Utilising the correct type(s) is critical not only for communicating your messages but also ensuring that your marketing and publicity budget works as hard as possible for you. To help reassure you of my ability, the following are just a few examples of specific activity I have undertaken.

launch an online branding space with a small budgetCase Study | Low cost marketing

With very little available funds, this particular occupational safety organisation required a significant online presence to help communicate their messages. A flexible website with strong branding was developed initially. Subsequently online video advice was added accompanied by CPD examinations (the site now supports almost 100 videos). To extend the reach of the messages an integrated social media presence was also developed and integrated into the website (when applicable).

Outcome: Within 24 months the videos had reached an audience of 250,000+, they were also openly endorsed by the UK's Health & Safety Executive. The organisation is now recognised as one of the most significant safety bodies in the UK and are also now attracting attention from overseas.

Role: Founder, art direction, day to day maintenance and development

understanding how to use social media in your marketing mixCase Study | Social media campaign

This particular company recognised the importance of social media in relation to their marketing communications, however they were unsure how to get the most out of these channels within their full marketing mix. I diagnosed the best platforms for this business and recommended the different purposes of their Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Instagram channels. One particular campaign resulted in a 5 times increase in followers over 2 months and the campaign generated greater editorial coverage than any previous campaign.

Outcome: Now having access to a significant higher number of followers than before the campaign was executed this company can now actively push out further messages and understands the 'triggers' required of this media to initiate engagement.

Role: Marketing strategy, planning, management and monitoring of performance

Case Study | New product launch

The execution for the introduction of a new DIY and industrial product range required a innovative creative concept. My role was to 'sell in' this concept across the business, develop an integrated campaign both above and below the line activity, work directly with external 3rd party suppliers and deliver a product launch in the centre of London in the form of a fashion catwalk show to some 300+ guests including press and customers.

Outcome: This new brave concept has successfully differentiated the product range in a very saturated established market. The design style was successfully rolled out across all packaging and marketing communications and established a world class brand.

Role: Concept creation, planning, phasing, brand management, budget control and a very successful execution

by trying new methods of marketing you can often enjoy new successesCase Study | Effective communications

This not for profit organisation produced an annual technical safety report. Historically, only very academic users would have appreciated the content. I recommended and implemented an entirely new design treatment for the document, the content did not change but the way it was presented did. Adding life to the publication via imagery and brand styling took the report to an entirely new audience which could appreciate the important messages that were being conveyed within.

Outcome: The report went from a circulation of only a few hundred to over 30,000, generated significant editorial coverage, and is now produced in this manner on an annual basis with complimented by an online version.

Role: Communication review, and execution. Developing the publication with an external design company. Photography

using low cost but effective marketing consultancy methods to develop a start up businessCase Study | Branding

This Australian recruitment company established their business in the depths of the recession and were entering a very crowded market place. They were looking to establish their brand as 'different from the rest' to exemplify their culture and provide a real USP. Despite the company being on the other side of the world they were willing to work with me as I had been strongly recommended to them by another local firm.

Outcome: I developed a fresh brand look and feel that I then applied through out all their communications channels including web, livery, social media, conferences and trade exhibitions. The company were happy for my role to be as an executive marketing director for them and are now one of the top 10 fastest growing companies in Australia.

Role: Marketing and publicity consultancy, hands-on development of all collateral, on-going advice and guidance

Case Study | Trade events / exhibitions

A compelling approach was conceived to launch a new tool at a busy 3 day annual trade exhibition in the form of an endurance competition. The idea was for key organisations from within the industry to compete to build the tool in the fastest and safest time. The event was sold into the organisers and enabled the large 'stage' area and audio visual systems to be supplied to the client entirely free of charge. The stage set and lighting were all provided at a minimal cost.

Outcome: By the time the final arrived on day 3 the attention on the event was so huge that the entire exhibition ground to a halt while it was on, generating a crowd of hundreds of industry professionals and also received huge editorial coverage.

Role: Concept development, pre/during/post show publicity and stage management

Case Study | Conferences

This organisation held an annual conference and black tie dinner each year, attendance at both events were dwindling. After a thorough review of the current production techniques I recommended some modest improvements to the execution of the events on the day, including AV, content, and entertainment and also developed a significantly more professional method for pre-publicity to attract delegates.

Outcome: These events are now the highlight of the year, delegate numbers have increased and the production is now acknowledged as being more professional and in keeping with the organisations profile.

Role: Concept development, pre show publicity and event  and budget management
